Well-known Supermarket in Phuthaditjhaba Transformed into Church Meetinghouse

The Old Super Market in Phuthaditjhaba has been remodeled by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to meet the growing needs of the church members living in the area.

The congregation held an Open House on January 25th and invited members of the community to come and tour their building.

“I am happy that my neighbours and friends came to the open house to learn more about our beliefs.” says Branch President Sidney Thusi, “Not many know about our church and this was an opportunity for them to tour our building and see that we follow Jesus Christ.”

The remodel includes a chapel that holds 100 people, plus eight classrooms, kitchen, offices, and baptismal font.  Before acquiring the building, the members met at several different locations.  Many members expressed their joy in having a permanent place to worship.

Those in attendance included John A. Zackrison, President of the South Africa Durban Mission, his wife Dorothy, and his councillor, Terry Johns, along with Dominic Tshabalala the National Director of Public Affairs.  Also in attendance was the first branch president Khaya Zuma who recalled that the branch started with eight members. He was pleased to witness the growth of the church in the area.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints currently has 29,000 congregations with 15 million members worldwide.  Visitors are welcome to come and worship each Sunday at 9:00am. For more information call: (083)281-5535 or (072)630-2421
