Unity Through The Music Of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Inspirational music brought people closer together.

He said the hymn sung by the choir at the ceremony, “Come, Come, Ye Saints”, has become known and loved worldwide, and probably had special significance for those who grew up listening to Ukhozi FM.

Former Ukhozi presenter Cyril Bongani Mchunu, knick-named “Kansas City,” adopted “Come, Come, Ye Saints” as his signature tune. He loved this hymn and music sung by the Mormon Tabernacle choir.

“He loved it so much that he said over the radio, ‘Mom, if I die and you don’t play this hymn on my funeral, I will go nowhere.’ It was played at his funeral.”

Elder Cook said many people of the Durban area have listened to hymns of the Mormon Tabernacle choir and felt the spirit that they bring. “To me this is significant. I believe that our Father in Heaven uses opportunities such as these to help prepare our minds and hearts and draw us closer to Him,” he said.

He said that many people who listened to and enjoyed the hymns of the Mormon Tabernacle choir did not realize they were actually listening to the choir of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, “the same church that is building this temple in Durban”. He invited people to attend the temple’s open house once construction was completed.
