Home Teacher

A home teacher is a man who is assigned to watch over and help fellow members in his Latter-day Saint ward or branch. Two home teachers are assigned to each person or family in the congregation; these two priesthood holders visit their assigned individuals and families each month to help and support them in their efforts to live the principles taught by Jesus Christ.

Included in this regular visit is a message of spiritual instruction that is adapted to meet the needs and concerns of the individuals or families. Home teachers also make sure the temporal needs of the members are taken care of.

“Home teaching is not just another program. It is the priesthood way of watching over the Saints and accomplishing the mission of the Church. Home teaching is not just an assignment. It is a sacred calling,” former Church President Ezra Taft Benson said.

Home teaching is complemented by the visiting teaching program in caring for the needs of Latter-day Saints. Visiting teachers are two women assigned to visit an individual woman in their congregation.
