October 17-20, Drs. Ntshalintshali and Bitchong led the training of 8 professionals all from the Raleigh Fitkin Hospital, Swaziland. The following 3 days, those 8 trained 24 other doctors, nurses, and midwives. After written and functional testing all were proficient in skills and equipment to save babies lives.
The kits, provided by the LDS Charities, a humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, have the things needed for the training. A flip chart, student handbook, a neonatal doll for practice, suction and stethoscope etc. Each student and trainer are required to record their work in the field as they then train others.
The closing ceremony was attended by Raliegh Fitkin Hospital staff, the Ministry of Health, Thembesile Kumalo, and church representative, President. Sithole. The students actually performed what they had learned, and certificates were received.
Dr. Ntshalintshali committed to follow-up and will report in 6 months.
