Church Responds to Drought-Relief Request

In response to an urgent appeal by Jacaranda FM radio station for help with ‘Project Water-Drop’ (providing relief to severe drought-stricken parts of South Africa), 12 missionaries from the Johannesburg Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reported for duty at the radio station. The group of enthusiastic missionaries were accompanied by Busi  Ramegkoe and Sean Donnelly from the Church’s Africa Southeast Area Office.

Wearing their signature yellow Helping Hands vests, the team went straight into action, loading trucks and palletising bottles for loading.  Later, Jacaranda FM broadcast an interview on the news reporting the Mormon Helping Hands efforts and an interview with Sean Donnelly. The broadcast mentioned that the missionaries were serving from all over the world and emphasised the reason Latter-day Saints serve, which is to emulate the life of the Saviour Jesus Christ in assisting the poor and the needy.

The team is joined by Rian Van Heerden, breakfast show host from Jacaranda FM.

News reporter and friend of the Church, Dianne Broodryk, with Helping Hands Team.
